: Finding Strength

A long time ago, a friend asked me for some advice on strength and I recently stumbled upon what I wrote about it. I hope this helps if you're struggling right now.

Q:"How do you find strength when you feel like giving up?"

A: I can tell you right now it's not easy, and I'm sure anybody could figure that out. It's not about a quick fix or searching for the simple way out, you're only fooling yourself if you try.

When faced with challenges all we want to do is run and hide. When we're faced with the fear of change we shrivel up and lose sight of what's important. We're so stuck in the pathetic day to day routines that are supposed to shield us from life's turmoil, or at least they might make us forget about it for a little while. But what happens when everything around you suddenly stops and it's your turn to face the music? Are you going to stand up to it no matter what the cost or, are you going to run away from it? I can tell you one thing for certain, running away solves absolutely nothing and we all know it.

So why are people constantly running? In my opinion (and others), I think it's because we're all so afraid… Afraid of what?... of the pains of change, of the unknown, of the fact that we know the choices we make will forever change the course of our lives. And when faced with something that powerful most of us prefer to turn around and walk away. I also think it's because the fight for freedom is too much sometimes. And we're so confused to why getting what you want hurts so badly. We surrender to our own misery and it isn't until it stops that you can let life begin.

From my experiences finding strength is about looking deep inside of yourself (deeper than you could ever imagine) to find that you trust yourself enough to believe that you can pull through anything. It's all about knowing that no matter what happens you have people who love you, unconditionally and who are rooting for you. It's about coming to terms with whatever happens in your life (good and bad), knowing that it happened for a reason even if it's eternally unclear. It's about stepping up to the plate, rising above yourself and the measly expectations you have already set. You'll never know if you don't try and you might fall or you might surprise yourself. I love taking those chances because that is what life is all about. And most important of all, it's about NEVER GIVING UP because the second you do is the second you start running.

I could go on for days about strength, where you find it, where not to look for it so if you have any questions, I'm all ears. I'm going to close with a quote that inspires me every time I lay eyes on it.
"There comes a time when every life goes off course. In this desperate moment you must choose your direction. Will you fight to stay on the path while others tell you who you are? Or will you label yourself? Will you be honored by your choice? Or will you embrace your new path? Each morning you choose to move forward or to simply give up."
