Engagement Party Woo's and Woe's

I met with the lovely Allison (Engaged and Inspired) over the weekend to catch up. It's been almost a year since I've seen her and so much has happened, most importantly her getting married! It was great to hear about her experiences (good and bad) with her wedding and the honeymoon. I will be keeping it all in mind while planning my own. She also has some exciting things cooking up with Engaged and Inspired and The Inspired List (amongst others) so be sure to follow along!

I didn't allow myself any more time over the weekend to think wedding but I did manage to put away more money towards it. Yay! I believe we have a whole $300 saved so far. Better than nothing! I wonder what we can get for $300… anything? Clearly I haven't done ANY research yet ;)

Moving on to… Engagement parties! Traditionally they are thrown by the bride-to-be's parents. Obviously this isn't happening for me because A.) my dad is a bad word and B.) my Momma doesn't live here. What now?

We are lucky enough to have some generous friends in SoCal who are throwing us a small engagement party for our friends who live there. I feel so blessed to have them in our lives, even though we don't get to see them as often as we'd like. I'm totally looking forward to it and can't wait to go shopping for my outfit.

So what about all of the others we want celebrate our engagement with? It's now up to us to throw ourselves an engagement party here, knowing that any of my friends/family back East won't be able to make it. *Cue more crying and the desire to rip my hair out!* I've never planned a party this big, or at all really, so it will be interesting to say the least. I wish we didn't have to throw away money on this since we have to pay for the wedding but I think it will be worth it in the end. What's a few hundred dollars compared to friends, memories, and drunk, sloppy messes? ;) Maybe that is where the $300 could go? Hmm!

Have you been to or thrown an engagement party before? I'd love to hear about it!
