Countdown to SF Marathon: 39 Days

With only 39 days until I step foot on the starting line at the San Francisco Marathon, I begin training. I am totally crazy, right? After my horrendous first attempt I believe so.

Although I played many sports growing up that involved running like basketball, softball, and track I have never enjoyed simply running. It's boring and well, it's boring. I'm interested to see if that changes over the next 39 days. All I know is that I have some serious work to do.

I only "ran" (jogged/walked) 1.02 miles today which took all of 14:40 to complete. I cramped up about three times, felt like I was going to have an asthma attack and my left knee acted up. Terrible, terrible shape. But I have to start somewhere, right?

One thing I am excited about is visiting Running Revolution this week to purchase some real running sneakers, as I am sure that will ease some of my pains. They've received mostly great reviews on Yelp and have the technology that shows you how you run and which side you balance most of your weight on. Ever since I heard about this on TV a while back I've been wanting to see it for myself.

  1. Definitely invest in good running shoes, that will make a world of difference! I'm following the couch to 5k plan right now, and it's also helping tremendously. Apparently running isn't just about your muscles, but also about lung and bone strength! After the run/walk/jog, I feel like I worked hard but not overworked to the point where it hurt more than it helped. Does that make sense?

    Good luck with training! I'm hoping to do a 5K this fall!
